Mozilla Songbird

When you download something from those crazy kids over at Mozilla, you know it’s going to be good. Take the awesome browser for example. Or Thunderbird, the Microsoft Outlook killer. Songbird is no different, aimed directly between the eyes of MP3 players like the bloated WinAmp or Microsoft Media Player. Songbird is a desktop media player mashed-up with the Web. Songbird is committed to playing the music that you want, from the sites you love, on any of the devices you want, challenges the conventions of discovery, purchase, consumption and organization of music on the Internet.
Songbird is a player and a platform. Like Firefox, Songbird is an open source, Open Web project built on the Mozilla platform. Songbird provides a public playground for Web media mash-ups by providing developers with both desktop and Web APIs, developer resources and fostering Open Web media standards, to wit, an Open Media Web.
What makes Songbird stand out from the rest? Put simply, Addons. Because Songbird is open source, the developers out there are going crazy putting together some awesome addons. Addons that you would expect to see when using Firefox. Songbird also has a built in browser that will let you visit a website. If that website has an MP3 embedded, Songbird will automatically download it to your library, if you want it to.
