Microsoft to Offer Free Anti-Virus
November 20, 2008 by Craig
Coming soon from Microsoft, a FREE anti-virus called Morro. Dont head over to the Microsoft website just yet, Morro won’t be available until the second half of 2009.
Morro has been designed to defend consumers’ PCs against malware, such as viruses, spyware and Trojans.
“This new solution, to be offered at no charge to consumers, will be architected for a smaller footprint that will use fewer computing resources, making it ideal for low-bandwidth scenarios or less powerful PCs,” it said.
Following Microsoft’s announcement, Symantec and McAfee stocks took a nosedive Wednesday over concerns that the software giant would take a significant portion of their market share in the PC security space.
Personally, I use Avast Virus Protection and another great free option is AVG. I think that these 2 companies should probably be more concerned, but in saying that, these guys already do a fantastic job and they should be abale to maintain and fair share of the market.
Microsoft has said it will discontinue sales of its current software security program, Windows Live OneCare, from June 30, 2009.
