Google make a lot of money through advertising. But Google’s Image Search was one of their properties that was not making any money through advertising. Google just couldn’t find a way to use their image search to profit it from it.

That’s was until now. Google have started testing ads in Google Image Search and they way they have done it is very clever. See if you can spot it in this screen capture.

As I said, this is still in a testing phase and you may not see it for a while, but be prepared for it!

I stumbled across Quarkbase today and I thought it was a really interesting site. It is especially interesting if you are a blogger or a webmaster like me.

Quarkbase is a simlpe and novel idea. Just enter a website that own or that you are interested in and let Quarkbase go to work. If it is the first time that Quarkbase has seen this site it can take about 30 seconds to gather all of the data.

Today, I entered my site Slave To the Internet to see what information it would gather. And I have to say I’m pretty impressed!
Quarkbase told me how many times my site has been Dugg, the number of pages on Reddit and de.licio.us, my Technorati blog reactions, popular pages, subscriber count, which countries my blog is famous in and a heap more.

Definitely have a look at Quarkbase. It’s fun! After gloating about Slave To the Internet I played around with it for a bit longer and had a look at some of the web’s most popular sites.
Here’s what I found: Google, Yahoo, ProBlogger, IMDb, Alexa, Facebook
